What are Core Web Vitals?
Core Web Vitals are user experience metrics that are part of Google’s Page Experience signals. Visual load is measured by Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), visual stability by Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and interactivity by First Input Delay (FID).
Google’s Core Web Vitals (CVW) metrics are a set of standardized site speed metrics gathered from real people using Google Chrome who visit your website. This is the data that Google uses in its ranking algorithm, and failure to meet these metrics will result in errors and warnings in Google Search Console.
These metrics are fantastic for website owners, managers, and marketers because they reflect what’s going on in the real world and provide us with hard data to work with when optimizing websites for speed and a specific set of numbers to aim for
We optimize your site for real-world site speed, revalidate it in Google Search Console, and follow up 28 days later to ensure you pass.
S.A E-Com focuses on the main Core Web Vital Services
Our focus is centered around the major Core Web Vital Services that include:
Server Response Time/ Time to First Byte (TTFB)
We target 0.1-0.2 seconds in the areas where the site is being hosted whereas 0.2-0.4 seconds worldwide. Although not a core metric, it’s a web vital metric that leads to the immediate loading of your site.
First Contentful Paint Time (FCP)
This is when the user notices something begins to load. It is the time when the first piece of content is displayed. Notably, it is also not a core web vital metric but a web vitals metric. It is critical for user experience.
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
This is one of the three core web vitals. We target it to be less than 2.5 seconds for 75% or more of your visitors. The LCP time is the time when the page’s largest piece of content starts appearing. This is essential for the users when they perceive the site to be loaded.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
CLS is another important web metric, but it isn’t a speed. Instead, it’s a calculated figure based on how much the page moves around while loading. Layout shift is when you go to click on a part of the page and it suddenly shifts and your mouse is in the wrong place – that’s layout shift. For a passing grade, we target this figure to be less than 0.1.
Page size or page weight in megabytes (MB)
Although not a Google metric, it is essentially critical in ensuring the page loads quickly. We prefer to keep all pages under 1.5 Mb. Pages larger than 3 Mb almost always fail the Core Web Vitals test, and we observe SEO ranking issues with sites with multiple pages larger than 5 Mb in size.
